The Passion Witch Project Episode 20: When Your Guest Can't Come- Spelunking for Magick in My Purse

What do you do when your guest cancels just before mic time?

With thirty minutes until filming, I had two choices: cancel the episode, or sit down in front of the camera and trust that I had something worth saying.

So I took a few deep breaths. I practiced Reiki. I gathered a handful of magickal companions from my purse, brought in a plant so I wouldn't feel quite so alone, laughed at the absurdity of the situation, and told Brendan, my producer, "Let's do it."

The result is perhaps the weirdest episode of The Passion Witch Project so far. Together, we build an impromptu altar from the ordinary objects that have become sacred through relationship: an aventurine stone, a clay star that reminds me to see, an herbal tea blend from witches who were there with me in spirit, and the grimoire I wrote in an attempt to understand who I am.

From there, we wander into the questions that have shaped my life: What is magick? What does it mean to heal? How do stories transform the way we relate to ourselves and the world around us?

For me, witchcraft isn't about escaping reality. It's about paying closer attention to it. It's about becoming curious enough to discover that a stone is never just a stone. It's geology, memory, beauty, companionship, and the unique relationship you cultivate with it over time. It's about allowing the world to become more alive because you have chosen to know it more intimately.

We also explore writing as a spiritual practice, consciousness as a lifelong adventure, and healing not as fixing ourselves, but as courageously exploring the depths of who we already are.

If this conversation offers you anything, I hope it's permission: permission to become fascinated by your own inner landscape, to befriend the wonderfully weird parts of yourself, and to trust that your relationships—with people, places, stories, symbols, and even seemingly ordinary objects—can become profound sources of meaning.

Because perhaps magick isn't something we find.
