A Letter to My Future Partner About Passion

What beautiful freedom is there in allowing ourselves to imagine the life we want to live?

Writing is an empowering tool for manifestation; it helps us pull our desires from our unconscious mind so that we can examine them externally, and then we get to choose what to do with those desires. Below is an exercise I did to better understand how I want passion to play out with a future partner, especially when the first heat of attraction has cooled.

How would you choose to rekindle passion with your partner?

We are so close to finding each other, my love. We are mere heartbeats away. I feel myself melting for you, softening already to hear your passion for the world, your humor that tickles me from the inside out, your touch that reminds my body why I chose to have skin. I don’t know how long we have been searching for each other – perhaps we have been trying and missing for millennia, always too scared or too stuck in our little lives to search for real magick, or perhaps we find each other in every lifetime because matter is no matter for two souls this hungry for each other, because we can’t help but remember what cosmic love tastes like and chocolate is a poor substitute.

With my last love, freedom, touch, and speech dissipated in a fine mist, but you hold my soul without force, you set my skin on fire, and you fill me with the words of affirmation I have craved since I knew what words were for. All the pain of loving wrong, loving too much or not enough, it melts when you hold me and look into my eyes like you still can’t believe I’m real. I don’t doubt anymore; I know in every organ, every tissue, every cell and atom that you are my destiny. You are why I am here. I came for a revolution to be sure, but this love is the way we fight. Every moan, every gasp of pleasure, every creative act - this is our ammunition, and it doesn’t feel like war. It feels like sanctuary, a safe harbor for souls in need of rest. Our humor, our kindness, our passion– this is how we show others it’s possible to step into their own gifts and not settle for anything less than heaven on earth. This was our mission all along: we create together.

So love, when one day you feel the blaze of passion between us fizzle, and it will because all fires do, don’t fret. Pick up your guitar or your pen or your paintbrush and go off to be alone. Sit in your most comfortable chair and close your eyes; feel the channel of stardust move through your body and out your hands. Allow yourself to capture the ineffable mysteries of the universe in your own tender way. And by and by, I will be drawn to you like a magnet. I will wander into the room and sit where I can see you fully, take my notebook from my pocket to mark the way your hair falls into your face, the way your eyes close so you can better feel the magick around you. I will write about the way your mouth moves as though in silent conversation with your muse or Spirit or God. And at some point, when you are ready, you will notice me watching you and set your implements down. I will rise from where I am and unbutton my blouse, kick off my heels, and walk toward you. I will touch your face and slide my hand down to your chest, gently pushing you back into your chair. I’ll bend down to breathe in the scent of your neck and sit on your lap, my face mere inches from yours. I will kiss you passionately, gratefully, hungrily, for you are the man who inspires me to write, inspires me to create, inspires me to imagine you into existence. You are the manifestation of my belief in magick. Make no mistake, love, you never have to worry about my desire for you, for you are my desire incarnate.
